SWINE FLU VACCINATION PROGRAMME
The Department of Health has indicated that the following patient groups should be prioritised for vaccination in the following order
- Individuals between 6 months and 65 years in the current seasonal flu "at risk groups."
- All Pregnant women.
- Household contacts of immuno-suppressed individuals.
- People aged 65 and over in the current seasonal flu clinical "at risk groups.
Currently defined clinical "at risk group" are:
Those aged 6 months and over with
- Chronic respiratory disease including asthmatics on regular inhaled/oral steroids or with previous exacerbations requiring admission.
- Chronic heart, renal or liver disease.
- Diabetes
- Chronic neurological disease including those with multiple sclerosis, degenerative neurological conditions, or those who have had a stroke.
- Immuno-suppressed or who are immuno-compromised as a result of disease or treatment.
This means that certain croups (including the fit over 65's) who are eligible for seasonal flu immunisation are not included in the "first phase" of the swine flu programme.
If you meet the above criteria and wish to receive the vaccine, please talk to our reception team who can book you an appointment in our designated clinic for "Swine Flu".
We would like to reassure our patients that this is the "first phase". Other phases will follow in due course, but priority must be given to those at greatest risk as identified by the Department of health.
